Ursula Damm
Ursula Damm studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and at the Academy for Media Arts in Cologne. Her installations have recently increasingly drawn on media reflections of interactive and living spaces. Her work looks at aspects of social interaction between human and animal communities as well as the habitats, that give rise to collective structures, the planning of which she sees as a cultural and philosophical mission. This culminates in systems and arrangements in which animals, organisms and people encounter one another in new ways, finding a different understanding of each other within technical contexts.
Ursula Damm has taught and carried out research at, among others, the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art and UCSD San Diego; since 2004 she has been a professor at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, where she conducts a performance platform as part of the Digital Bauhaus Lab as well as having set up a DIY Biolab. She has received numerous awards (for example the Spiridon-Neven-DuMont Prize). Her work is part of a number of public collections (including HEK Basel and the Ludwig-Museum Koblenz).
